Effective use of Wireless in the Higher Education space.

It is important today for IT managers to be creative in their utilization of technology which permits minimizing costs. Not only do today's IT managers need a degree in technology but they now need a business degree in finance in order to effectively utilize the shrinking budgets and at the same time, remain on the bleeding edge of technology.

One such NLS client, Mesa Community College, was faced with a challenge for its remote campus (14 miles away) with increasing monthly costs for a wired point to point circuit for increased capacity as their IT infrastructure grew. A couple questions crossed their minds... Do they decrease the bandwidth to remain on budget? Or do they find alternatives? After the customer contacted NLS and explained the challenge, NLS recommended they utilize a Microwave Point to Point DS3 connection. This provided increased bandwidth for the future at a fixed cost with NO monthly expenses.

NLS assisted the IT manager to create a cost model for the college's finance department. The investment paid for itself in under two years. The IT manager went before the finance committee and the NLS service was approved. Ultimately, this provided a budget savings that could be used elsewhere after year two. MCC later contacted NLS to implement a deployment of in-building wireless using the budget dollars that were initially allocated for the monthly recurring costs that were eliminated.
